Mat-Su DC Featured on Newscast

Mat-Su District Conservationist Michelle Schuman was interviewed by KTUU Channel 2 in Anchorage for a story on farmland preservation efforts in the Mat-Su valley. The story focused on Leroi and Margaret Heaven, a couple who have farmed their 40 acres near Wasilla since the 1980s. The Heavens have applied for support from the Farm and Ranchland Protection Program (FRPP) to preserve their property and protect it from conversion to non-agricultural uses. Once the required matching funds are raised by the Alaska Farmland Trust, the Heavens will become the first Alaskans to enroll in FRPP. You can still see the entire five-minute piece online at http://www.ktuu.com/Global/story.asp?S=7073714.
