Farm Bill Forum Attracts
Alaskans from Across the State
Last
week’s Farm Bill Forum attracted a broad cross section of USDA constituencies
from many parts of Alaska. Three full hours of comments revealed issues such as
growing support for farmland protection in the Mat-Su, the value of broadband in
building rural economies, and the need for agriculture infrastructure in the
state.
Those who took their turns at the microphone included homebuilders,
agricultural producers, elected officials, city managers, philanthropists,
commercial fishermen, lodge owners, and soil and water conservation district
staff, directors and cooperators.
The event also attracted a diverse group geographically as participants
traveled from Delta Junction, Kodiak, Nome, Homer, Fairbanks and the Aleutian
Islands to attend and comment on the Farm Bill.
Total attendance at the Forum exceeded 150.
The transcript for the event will be available on the Alaska NRCS website in
the next few weeks.
