STATE TECHNICAL COMMITTEE MEETING SCHEDULED

NRCS Holding Open Meeting on Conservation Programs

PALMER, May 8, 2009 – The State Technical Committee will meet May 27, at the NRCS state office conference room, located at 800 West Evergreen Avenue, Palmer. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. and adjourn at noon. Agenda items include an overview of 2009 NRCS administered Farm Bill programs and a review of the Emergency Watershed Program (EWP). State Technical Committee meetings are open to the public.

NRCS provides products and services to enable people to be good stewards of the nation’s soil, water, and related natural resources on non-federal lands. With the help of NRCS, people are better able to conserve, maintain, or improve their natural resources.

The NRCS State Technical Committee provides advice on a number of issues within a variety of NRCS conservation programs. Although the State Technical Committee has no implementation or enforcement authority, USDA gives strong consideration to the Committee’s recommendations.

NRCS employees provide technical assistance based on sound science and suited to a customer's specific needs. NRCS provides financial assistance for many conservation activities. Participation in programs is voluntary and non-regulatory.
