Lastor Family Soils
Coarse sitly, mixed, Typic Haplorthels

Description:  Stratified very dark brown and dark yellowish brown soils formed in loess and layers of decomposing grass with dwarf scrub vegetation found on north facing shoulders of steep escarpments, moderately deep permafrost.  Moderately acid soils.

Vegetation:  Shrub birch and ericaceous shrub dwarf scrubland with moss and lichen understory

Parent Material:  Coarse silty loess with layers of grassy, fibric organic matter and sandy volcanic ash

Drainage:  Moderately well drained

Slope:  Strongly sloping convex and north facing shoulders of steep escarpments

Flooding: No flooding hazard
