Domain:  Soil temperature and moisture data are representative of alpine medium shrub scrub communities on coarse-texture materials at mid to lower elevations within the alpine life zone. Soils are formed in outwash or alluvium in the Alexander Archipelago-Gulf of Alaska or the Cook Inlet Mountains Major Land Resource Areas (illustrated in red).

US Soil Taxonomy:  sandy-skeletal, mixed Typic Haplocryepts.
Parent Material:
gravelly alluvium derived from graywache
General Soil Profile Description:
  Oi-0 to2 cm; very dark brown; slightly decomposed plant material; pH 5.8
  A-2 to 20 cm; very dark grayish brown extremely gravelly fine sandy loam; pH 6.2
  Bw-20 to 43 cm; very dark gray; extremely gravelly loamy coarse sand; pH 6.2
  C1 and C2- 43 to 152 cm; very dark gray; extremely gravelly loamy coarse sand and extremely cobbly loamy coarse sand; pH 6.2
